George Lucas had the story, but not the time to direct. He was too deeply involved with his Star Wars movies. He described the idea to Steven Spielberg, suggesting he direct a film based on it. Spielberg agreed, and what evolved was Raiders of the Lost Ark. The film was not expected to be a blockbuster, but it was. It earned 5 Oscars and led to 3 more movies featuring the exploits of Indiana Jones. The name was changed to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark in keeping with the titles of these additional films.

Harrison Ford plays Indiana Jones, but the role was first offered to Tom Selleck. Committed to the television series he was about to launch, Magnum P. I., Selleck declined. His prize is forcibly taken from him by Belloq, who has recruited a native tribe to assist him. Indiana manages to escape and returns to the university. He is quickly approached by two federal agents, who inform him that Belloq is working for the Nazis and seeking the Staff of Ra. The staff is supposedly in the possession of Abner Ravenwood. Realizing that the Nazis are after the Ark of the Covenant, Jones travels to Nepal to track down Ravenwood. He finds his friend is dead, but Marion Ravenwood has the headpiece for the staff. The problem is, he is not on Marion’s list of favorite people, and before he can recover the item from her, the Nazis attack. They manage to escape with the headpiece. Following more adventures, near misses, and narrow escapes, they lose the Ark to Belloq and the Nazis. Belloq wants to open the Ark and test it before delivering it to Hitler. This destroys everyone in the area except Marion and Indiana, who do not look at it. In the end, the Ark is returned to America and placed in storage.

The film received Oscars for Sound Effects Editing, Visual Effects, Art Direction, Film Editing, and Sound. It received a nomination in the Best Picture category but did not win. Ben Burtt was in charge of sound effects while Industrial Light and Magic handled the visual effects. John Williams was nominated for his score but lost to Vangelis, who had scored the immensely popular movie, Chariots of Fire.

On location filming in Tunisia was challenging for members of both the crew and cast. The heat was oppressive, and many also fell victim to dysentery and other illnesses. The scene with the fancy sword work that ends with Indiana shooting the swordsman was not originally scripted. Ford was too ill to play the scene as it had been written and suggested the alternative. He also injured his knee when, during a fight scene, the wheel of an airplane rolled over his leg.

Since its premier, Raiders of the Lost Ark has been a perennial fan favorite. In 2008, a DVD version which included extras as well as correcting some errors was released. The film is also available in a boxed set.

He quickly appears more provincial than his fellow Senators. Many don’t even know why he’s there. Others know he is only there because of his simple ways. But poor Jefferson is completely in the dark as to the true intentions of those that placed him there. He is just proud to have the opportunity to serve his country and be a part of the American political system.

Jefferson’s Governor selected him for Senate because he thought his simple, wide eyed, average Joe ways would make him the perfect stooge for his corrupt boss in the Senate. They needed someone that would not cause them any problems and would do exactly what they said. They agreed Jefferson would be the right fit for the job. He was well known in his small community for being an honest man and this is exactly the image they needed to hide their wicked schemes behind.

Almost everyone around Jefferson was in on the plan. They all knew exactly why he was there. Others resented such a simple man that seem to bumble his way through speeches, being there. Jefferson also felt out of place but he had no idea how he was being used. Their plan seemed to be working until Jefferson realized he was a pawn in their corrupt game of politics. Then he became a problem that none of them saw coming.

Jefferson realizes he is being used. He also comes to learn that the Senate is filled with corrupt politicians seeking personal gain. At first he is stunned, then he rises to the occasion by standing up against his adversaries.

He decides to expose the Senators to the American people by stage a filibuster. He takes the Senate floor for several hours and exposes the illegal activities he witnesses in the Senate. For the first time, he is listened to and seen as a threat.

This film was considered the first whistle blower movie of its time. It showed American politics in a light that was never seen before. And for this very reason it was protested by many. If you have a lovely patio or deck or a beautiful garden, then you need to have good patio furniture in order to get pleasure from it. There is no finer end to a busy day than sitting outside on the patio with a drink and a newspaper or a book. I like to sit in the garden after the sun has weakened a little, but before the mosquitoes come out, for a few hours reading a book.

There are many different styles of patio furniture to choose from that range from classic to modern. There is also a full range of choice in that there are chairs, loungers, swinging sofas, tables, outdoor fridges, barbecue sets and patio heaters amongst other things. A full set need not cost more than $1,000, but you can start with a table and two chairs and build up your patio furniture set step by step.

The many choices you have when looking for patio furniture are the style and the material it is made from. Most patio furniture stays outside all day and all night in any weather, so it important to get furniture that is well-made and weather-proof. All weather furniture is usually made from plastic-coated steel, wicker, massive wood or moulded plastic.

Whatever you choose, make sure that the guarantee makes your choice worth the money. For example, I mean, if the furniture costs $200, but has a 12 month guarantee, then you should be prepared to pay $4 a week for your investment and everything else is a bonus.

Another tip is to buy your patio furniture from a reputable manufacturer or a reputable retailer, unless it is massive timber furniture in which case you will want a reputable local craftsman. It depends where you live of course, but any patio furniture is going to have a hard time of it and it will remain outside sometimes no matter what your intentions are now.

Standard plastic patio furniture is pretty good and will stand up to all but the coldest of weather, which can make it become fragile. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures can have the same effect on cheap plastic chairs. White is the usual colour, but there are others. Make sure that you buy something that will take your weight, especially if you are a bit on the heavy side. I have had legs of plastic chairs go on me, but luckily I was on grass both times. On concrete or near the edge of raised decking could be very dangerous.

Once you have chosen your patio tables, chairs and possibly loungers, there are one or two other items that I think are essential to allowing the complete enjoyment of your patio deck. For example, if you want to use your outdoor furniture in the evening you may find it chilly or you may be bothered by insects.

This need not be a problem. You can get a patio heater for quite a reasonable price. A gas patio heater will keep up to eight people lovely and warm. To complete your patio furniture set, you might want a mosquito trap of some kind.
