Meredith Emerson

Daniel Coursey the superior court judge has issued an order to restrain the GBI (Georgia bureau of Investigation) to release any nude pictures of the dead body of Meredith Emerson. Hustler magazine is seeking the nude pictures of Meredith Emerson taken at the time the dead body was discovered. The Magazine had previously made a formal request to GBI to release the photos under the freedom for Information act. The Family of Meredith Emerson had approached the court to obtain the restraining order. The attorney representing the family argued that Emerson is not alive to give such permission. The magazines have a right to publish the nude pictures under the state laws but they can only publish pictures of those who had permitted them to do so.
Mean while the Georgia house Governmental affairs committee has passed a unanimous bill named ‘The Meredith Emerson Memorial Privacy Act’ that will ban the publication of victim photos that have died due to an criminal assault. The bill 1322 will allow the journalists, employees of law enforcement agencies and lawyers to view or examine the photos at GBI headquarters but not to reproduce or copy them.
I wonder why the Hustler magazine is after those pictures and what new story they want to fabricate with the help of those pictures. The pictures will do nothing except to renewing the grief and pain to the family of Emerson.
Meredith Emerson had disappeared on January 1, 2008. Her dead body was discovered six days later. Her killer is serving a life time imprisonment for the gruesome murder.
