Markos Moulitsas
Born on the 11th day of September in 1971, Markos Moulitsas is a versatile author, columnist and blogger. Perhaps his lack of affiliation with any religion – since he is an atheist – lets him be the outspoken individual that he is.
An affiliate of President Barack Obama by virtue of being natives of the same city and state – Chicago, Illinois – Markos Moulitsas has been very vocal with respect to political activism both on the Republican as well as Democratic front.
A former military officer (active from ‘89 – ‘92), Markos Moulitsas got to spend the earliest part of his life in El Salvador at the tender age of only 5 years. His parental heritage is a blend of Greek (paternal) and Salvadoran (maternal) ancestry. Dubbed “Kos” by his unit members in the army, Moulitsas recalls the various atrocities and inhumanities he witnessed while living in El Salvador during the Civil War. A particular incident he recalls is seeing students being persecuted by communist guerillas on allegations of forming affinity with the government.
Markos Moulitsas’s versatility and linguistics can be attributed to his thorough academic background. Earning a double bachelors in philosophy, political science and journalism from the NIU (Northern Illinois University) in ‘96, the aspiring Kos went to purse a Law degree from the Boston University School of Law. He successfully completed his J.D degree in ‘99.
In ‘02 he launched his blog, the Daily Kos, and has been running it successfully since then. Known for his bluntness and being straight forward, Kos has struck controversies over and over again with major political names the like of Hillary Clinton, former President Bush and the Blackwater mercenaries.
