Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Cute variance on vampire legends, with high school valley girl Swanson turning out to be “the selected one” of her generation to kill wandering vampires. Sutherland is superlative as her mentor and guide, and Reubens the prior Pee-wee Herman is fun as one of the fanged bullies. Look for Ben Affleck as a basketball player. Cast includes Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Paul Reubens, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry, and Gregson Wagner. (86 minutes,’92)

Dead Man Walking: With his execution date is approaching, death row prisoner Mathew Poncelet is befriended by Sister Helen. Sister Helen sees a different side to Mathew than most get to see, and she feels his suffering. On the other side of the fence, she witnesses the anger and outrage of the families of Mathew’s murder victims. It will take all her faith to carry her through whatever outcome lies ahead.

The Net: Angela Bennett is a computer geek. She receives a program, and is asked to de-bug it. Shortly after receiving the program, the man who sent it to her is killed. What’s on the disc is of vital importance to someone. They know she has it, and she is now running for her life as she tries to figure out just who is after her, and why.

Bellissima: Obvious drama in reference to pushy, pitying mom Magnani, infatuated to the point of hysteria with getting her cute, compliant little girl into films. The movie is loud while it should be delicate, and eventually grows tiresome. Cast includes Anna Magnani, Walter Chiari, Tina Apicella, Gastone Renzelli, and Alessandro Blasetti. (112 minutes,’52)

Shades of Fear: Flat, disheartening drama in reference to a youthful female Ayola who yearns to become a guide and the assorted characters that crosses her road as she cruises for England. Nightmare on Elm Street Four: Refreshed by flaming mutt urine, Freddy Krueger ultimately kills all the kids of those who initially burned him to death, and looks for new teenagers to terrorize, although he’s challenged by a “fantasy master,” his metaphysical counterpart. Series was showing its age by this point. Cast includes Renny Harlin, Robert Englund, Rodney Eastman, Danny Hassel, Andras Jones, Tuesday Horseman, Toy Newkirk, Ken Sagoes, Brooke Theiss, and Lisa Wilcox. (92 minutes,’88)

The Leading Man: British backstage show romance in regards to an American film megastar who seduces a playwright’s desolate spouse and his leading-woman mistress. When it might relatively make up its mind whether it’s a joke drama or a light thriller, it’s still extremely amusing stuff.
